AcidPhosphataseisaphosphatase,atypeofenzyme,usedtofreeattachedphosphategroupsfromothermoleculesduringdigestion.Itisbasicallyaphosphomonoesterase.Itisstoredinlysosomesandfunctionswhenthesefusewithendosomes,whichareacidifiedwhiletheyfunction;therefore,ithasanacidpHoptimum.Differentformsofacidphosphatasearefoundindifferentorgans,andtheirserumlevelsareusedtoevaluatethesuccessofthesurgicaltreatmentofprostatecancer.
