TheA-kinaseanchorproteins(AKAPs)areagroupofstructurallydiverseproteins,whichhavethecommonfunctionofbindingtotheregulatorysubunitofproteinkinaseA(PKA)andconfiningtheholoenzymetodiscretelocationswithinthecell(1).AKAP4,alsoknownashAKAP82,isamajorspermfibroussheathproteinthatlocalizestotheentirelengthoftheflagellumofhumansperm(2).IthasbeensuggestedthatAKAP4playsmultiplerolesinspermmotilityandregulationofsignaltransductionpathways(2).AKAP4hasalsobeenpostulatedtobeapotentialbioMarkerforbreastcancer(3).
