Apelin Antibody Description

Background Apelin is a neuropeptide expressed in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei that acts on specific receptors located on vasopressinergic neurons. The apelin gene to Xq25-q26.3 based on sequence similarity between the apelin sequence and a chromosome X PAC clone. This gene encodes a peptide that functions as an endogenous ligand for the G protein coupled receptor APJ. The encoded protein is synthesized as a prepropeptide that is processed into biologically active C-terminal fragments. The peptide fragments activate different tissue specific signaling pathways that regulate diverse biological functions including fluid homeostasis, cardiovascular function and insulin secretion. This protein also functions as a coreceptor for the human immunodeficiency virus 1. This antibody is suitable for researchers interested in neuroscience research. Synonyms APJ endogenous ligand, Immunogen Apelin affinity purified antibody was prepared from whole rabbit serum produced by repeated immunizations with a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminal of human Apelin. Immunogen Type Peptide Storage Condition Store vial at 4° C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20° C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4° C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use. Application Note Anti-Apelin is useful for Western Blotting. Specific conditions for reactivity should be optimized by the end user. Expect a band approximately ~8.6 kDa corresponding to the appropriate cell lysate or extract. Purity/Specifity Anti-Apelin antibody is directed against human Apelin protein.  The product was affinity purified from monospecific antiserum by immunoaffinity purification.  A BLAST analysis was used to suggest reactivity with this protein from human, mouse, and rat based on 100% homology for the immunogen sequence.  Cross reactivity with Apelin from other sources has not been determined.
